Use score rate, not wins alone
Chess performance usually counts a draw as half a point. A line with many solid draws may be performing better than a volatile line with more wins and more losses.
TargetChess uses score rate so that both outcomes are represented.
- Ten games is a clue, not a conclusion
- Compare ratings of the opposition
- Separate White and Black
- Check whether the line reaches the same structures
Look for confidence intervals
The fewer games you have, the more a single result moves the number. Treat small samples as an invitation to review the games, not as a command to abandon the opening.
Pair the number with a question
Ask why a line scores well. Do you reach familiar endgames? Are opponents spending more time? Does the structure fit your tactical strengths? The answer is more valuable than the percentage itself.
