Start with repeated positions
One mistake can be noise. The same type of mistake across several games is a signal. Group your games by opening and look for positions that recur before reviewing individual tactics.
Choose one recurring position where your score is below average. That becomes the anchor for a week of study.
- Review the first unfamiliar decision
- Write one sentence about the plan
- Save two model games
- Test the idea in a practice game
Separate knowledge from execution
Losing an opening does not always mean the opening is bad. Check whether you reached an unfamiliar position, spent too much time early, or understood the plan but missed a tactical detail.
This distinction keeps your repertoire stable while directing effort toward the skill that actually needs work.
Keep the plan small
A strong weekly plan can fit on one card: one opening position, one recurring tactical theme, and one time-management habit. Review the next ten games against those three goals.
